The 1970,s was a more or less simpler time then now and being a teenager back then was a bit more harder then it is now . We had no video games or computers , not a heck of a lot of good tv shows ( although that stands for today also ) , so what we did was either play sports or just hang out with friends . Well at the ttime we had a cat named Morris . He was a long haired orange and white hunter , and everyone on the street knew him . I made it known that if anyone would hurt him that the same thing would happen to them and since I was a rather large kid it stuck . Most nights after 9 pm you could hear our mother yelling my name and then the cats to come home for the night. Many a time was when I would be the butt of " look who the cat dragged in " jokes from my brother and parents but it was all good. Morris had the run of Halstead ave and one of the things that he loved to do was tease the neighbors dog Lucky , a large golden retriever . Now he was most times on a chain in there back yard so the cat knew just were to stand so the chain would stretch out , really pissing the dog off . One day our Mother was having coffee in that house , her high school friend owned lucky and I was friends also with there kids. As usual Morris was sitting just at the edge of the chain circle , cleaning himself , Mother sitting in there kitchen half watching the cat and dog when all of a sudden a load barking and a (oh crap) sounding yowl took place . Lucky broke the chain ! Well I was down the street sitting on the porch reading when I hear barking , them Morris running past me, hell bent for leather . Lucky running a close second behind him , trailing the chain . One of the kids trying to grab the chain while both of the Mothers running behind .
At first I thought that I was dreaming but then I saw Morris run up a tree across the street , lucky hitting the tree head first while trying to at him. Well after they finally got the dog back in the yard both my Mother , younger brother and myself stood under the tree looking up at the cat . I remember asking the question that I wonder if he learned his lesson yet , after getting a look from all three I just went back to the to my book .
The next day Morris was in there yard again teasing that dog.... only at the end of the drive way , more running room I suppose.
He passed away from feline lukemia a few years later but I swear I still him walking along with me , buy my side at times .
